Firefighters Present Scholarships

ROBBINSVILLE TOWNSHIP – June 1, 2010 – The Robbinsville Professional Firefighters Association presented two scholarships to graduating seniors of the Class of 2010 at the annual Robbinsville High School Scholarship Night.  This year’s awards were presented by Firefighter Steven Schnaudt, Secretary of IAFF Local 3786

The Robbinsville Professional Firefighters’  “Dennis L. Williams Memorial Scholarship” for $250.00 was awarded to Laura Williams.  The scholarship is named in honor of Career Captain Dennis L. Williams (no relation to the recipient) of the Washington Township Fire Department who was killed in a traffic accident that occurred while off duty in 2004.  Captain Williams is remembered by the community and the members of IAFF Local 3786 as a staunch advocate for fire prevention education as well as a generous and fair man who would always stand up for the men under his command.

IAFF Local 3786 was also very proud to award the “Alexander Arcuri” Scholarship for $500.00 to Nicholas Foti.  This award is named in honor of Alexander Arcuri.  Alex was a 13 year old student at Pond Road Middle School when he succumbed to an illness in 2006.  Alex was fondly remembered during the presentation of the award as a courageous young man with an infectious smile and a positive outlook despite an ongoing battle with a severe form of epilepsy.  Firefighters grew to know Alex well during the course of many emergency responses to Alex’s home.  Alex was a member of the class of 2010 which made this year’s award to one of his fellow classmates that much more significant.   Alex’s mother, Regina was in attendance at the ceremony.

Funds for the scholarships are made possible by the generous donations of township residents and business owners.  If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund please click on the “DONATE” icon on the right side of the home page.
