Robbinsville Fire Assists Burlington County at Major MVA
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP – May 21, 2010 – Firefighters from the Robbinsville Division of Fire responded mutual aid to Burlington County for a major accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.The early morning incident (just after 1AM) occurred in the northbound lanes of the turnpike less than a mile south of the Mercer County border.The incident involved several trucks including an overturned tanker loaded with over 6,000 gallons of kerosene.
Robbinsville firefighters on Engine 40 responded as the fourth due rescue to the scene.The incident involved two drivers trapped in two separate trucks as well as a large spill of kerosene onto the roadway.One driver was pronounced dead at the scene while extrication was still in progress and the other driver was removed and transported to a local trauma center.Robbinsville firefighters assisted at the scene for about two hours.
Responding to the incident were Bordentown Township Engine 322, Florence Township (Engine and Rescue 401), Mansfield Township (Engine and Rescue 331), Robbinsville Engine 40, Hamilton Township (Groveville) Engine 19, Virtua Health Paramedics, Capital Health Paramedics, Allentown First Aid Squad, America Emergency Squad (of Mt. Holly), and NJSP Medevac (Southstar).
