Firefighters Save Accident Victim

FIREFIGHTERS WORK TO SAVE ACCIDENT VICTIM

ROBBINSVILLE - January 4, 2010 - Firefighters from the Robbinsville Division of Fire worked furiously today to rescue a local teenager from a serious car accident on Route 130.  Firefighters responded to the single car accident on Route 130 this afternoon just south of Meadowbrook Road.  Members of the engine company arrived first and found a male passenger unconscious and trapped in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. For unknown reasons the car left the roadway and struck a large tree on the passenger door crushing the door onto the passenger and leaving the victim bleeding profusely and unresponsive.  Three local 3786 members assigned to the engine crew made quick work of attending to the victim and using heavy rescue tools to remove the roof and door to free the victim.  After the extrication was complete, the victim was treated by Capital Health paramedics and township EMTs and transported to the Capital Health (at Fuld) trauma center in Trenton in critical condition.   Volunteers from the Division of Fire arrived later in the incident and assisted with incident management.

Fortunately the engine crew was able to respond immediately to this accident to perform the victim extrication.  The new Fire Director has mandated that engine crew personnel must answer second ambulance calls.  This frequently leaves the township of Robbinsville with a fire engine staffed by only one person alone effectively placing the fire department out of service until the ambulance returns from the hospital.
